"Sounds and songs of popular imagination" by MAURO GINESTRONE
Cantarkaicos firstly expresses the desire of telling using the melody and the tradition music. This is a performance which better closet to the theatre than to the musical concert: a "New Popular Song" where the language of the music mixes together with the language of the theatre, without any scenic movement like in the Symphonic Concert. Inside the "New Popular Song" project the sound of the orchestra is fundamental such as the presence of a the polyphonic chorus which is rich in expressive potentialities. These two sound worlds mix together to realize a kind of "Hyper-person" right to play the different steps of the succession. The original recipe of Cantarkaicos finally includes the desire of making the public learnt about the beauty and the expressive power of Canavese melody, which has been cleverly re-valued by Amerigo Vigliermo all over the villages and towns of Canavese. The results of that research are kept in Bajo Dora (Torino) at the Canavese Etnological Centre, founded by A.Vigliermo . Mauro Ginestrone Contents The Performance goes on throughout a very short time because everything happens during the passing time from the night to the day: the daybreak. Only few minutes have passed and the first wave of light leaves only a vague and obscure memory of itself. The daybreak feeds opposite sensations of calm and anxiety, of hope and impotence towards the circular movement and the transforming strength of the time. This is the time when a man silently looks at the coming of the day while some fragments of his past are coming up and mixing together by chance. An emotional picture is becoming a realty, a simple and extraordinary mosaic like the knowledge of its composer. Cantarkaicos is everything that crosses the mind of an old man sitting in front of his house. Some thoughts which become songs, stories, descriptions of a place that has been his and that still belongs to him. Without any yearning people tell something to anyone stops to listen to.
